#MakeupMonday The Basics: Eye Cream

earth science skincare azulene eye cream

Earth Science Skincare Azulene Eye Cream

Continuing on with our theme of The Basics I next want to turn my eye to eye-creams (yes that was corny).

Without a doubt the first area of deterioration I see when I am doing people’s makeup is around the eyes. Good moisturizer, sunscreen and eye-cream are just essential to ones beauty regimen in my opinion. And the necessity of this intensifies with fair-er skin tones. I think young women are in denial of how early the lines around the eyes really start to develop. I have had models in my chair in their late teens that were already starting to develop fine lines. Now granted, there are likely some lifestyle issues factoring into that as well (if you smoke…) but still. That is REALLY young to be developing wrinkles and as of right now once you have a wrinkle there is no way to get rid of it. Protect your skin now as much as you can and stop those lines before they get started! These are some of my best picks in eye-creams. This is in no particular order as different eye creams address different issues… Continue reading →

Mini Contest: Twitter 500

EDIT Monday, July 25

OK so I think I’m at 497 followers BUT I noticed a lot of people who are joining now are either cosmetics companies, or SEO companies or other folks who do not need to win an eyelash curler. So instead of giving the Kevyn Aucoin curler to the 500th Follower, when I reach 500 followers, I will draw a random follower to award the prize to. That way it will hopefully go to someone who will use and appreciate the prize.

My Follow Me button is on the top right of my blog. Good luck!

It Is Not Workshop Time….

OK so there are more than a few exciting developments are taking place with regards to how I want to conduct my workshops moving forward (product sponsorship, facilities, and my “patented” teaching methodology) that are necessitating my moving the workshops into the New Year. Trust me: It will be worth the wait! Teaching is a passion, not my primary money maker. I still work primarily as an on-set artist. I teach because working with new artists inspires me and it is my way of giving back to the makeup community. Therefore – I do not ever want to do just any ole class. I want my classes to ROCK!

In the meantime as many emerging artists were interested in my classes, bear in mind that I do teach private lessons as well as small groups and those can be arranged more easily on a more flexible schedule. Please Email Us for more information or you can Visit Here to read about the options. Thanks so much for your patience (and thanks to those who’d already signed up for their flexibility) and I look forward to fabulous classes in 2012!

Sale Alert – Stila Online Warehouse Sale

Stila One Step Foundation

Stila One Step Foundation - gone but not forgotten

Stila is currently having it’s Semi Annual Online Warehouse Sale . What caught my eye and why I’m posting about it is that they are apparently either discontinuing or re-formulating their fabulous One Step Foundation, which is a primer and foundation all in one formula. This was one of my favorite foundations to recommend for daily wear (as opposed to the foundations I use for photography) so I’m bummed if it is being discontinued. In any event, whether you are one of the many ladies whom I’ve introduced this product to, or you have been looking for a comfortable daily wear foundation with light but complete coverage, you may want to stock up before this product is all gone… In addition to the One Step Foundation, other sale items of note just on cursory glance are

- Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer

- select shades of the ever popular and fab Lip Glazes

- select shades of the single Eye Shadow Pans including some of the mattes

- several palettes including the fabulous Color Wheel palette that was introduced last year

So run don’t walk and get ‘em while you can! Stila Semi Annual Online Warehouse Sale .

Use code 201103150030 at checkout and don’t miss out! Yaby was made by a makeup artist with makeup artists (and discriminating makeup mavens) in mind.

Award Show Watch – Oscars 2011

2011 awards show season is a wrap with the passing of the biggest awards show of them all – the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards, aka The Oscars. Let me say that I was involved with some Oscar madness for private clients this year and I have to give Big Kudos to the women and men who provide the glam for the top-line red carpet celebrities. The crazetasticness of my day only gave me further appreciation for the amount of work and skill it takes to work at the Celebrity level!

When last we talked about the Oscars beauty, the neutral face/tousled hair look was all the rage and more often than not did, it did not quite work. On the other hand, the clean face with the strong, bright lip was modern and ahead of the curve. Welp, it’s been a year and the pale face, bright lip look is still making appearances on the red carpet but unfortunately it’s not looking quite so fresh this time around. On the plus side, however, there was a return to polish that was much appreciated. Most of the hair was more fittingly coiffed and looked finished and polished without looking prom-esque, and most of the makeup looked done while still looking easy and not over-worked. So fresh and so clean is always a good look and these ladies did so in style… Continue reading →

Año Nuevo, Vida Nueva: Maquillaje Para ‘Go’! En Español

makeup and hair by Delia Jimenez-Owens

makeup and hair by Delia Jimenez-Owens / © K. Grisco

We here at Makeup to Go! pride ourselves on being an international bunch, and we have noticed that a lot of our inquiries come from spanish speaking Bellezas. For the new year we are going to have regular product reviews en español! These articles will not be written by me and my limited Spanish skills, but instead by my long-time makeup colleague and friend Delia Jimenez-Owens. For me, not only will it be fabtastic to have articles that branch out to our diverse readership, but it is always great to steal other makeup artists secrets, I mean, to read what products other artists are using and what tips they have to share. :)

If you are not a Spanish speaker, fret not! Delia has been so kind as to translate the article into English as well. Continue reading →

#MakeupMonday – Vibrant Color

A trend that emerged from the runways of Fashion Week Spring 2011 collections was Vibrant Color. Yay! Enough with the dark Gothic look or the monochromatic “no makeup” looks. Color is playful, uplifting and makes us look fresh and young. From subtly “there” to loud and proud, there are plenty of products to get you started. And fear not, there will be many more products to come as this trend develops into the new year.

Stila Cosmetics Color Wheel Eyeshadow Palette
Stila – Color Wheel Palette
This is one of the most genius palettes I’ve ever seen. I think one of the reasons more women don’t wear color (or why some who do don’t get it quite right) is simply because they don’t know how. Artists working in any medium get to know color and color relationships by using the color wheel. How ingenious is it to make an eyeshadow palette based on the Color Wheel!?! Not only are the colors laid out in a way that is very user friendly, the palette comes with pro tips and tricks for best looks and ideas. Genius! Continue reading →
